How to Use an AI Agent (What Agents Actually Do)
Beyond chatbots: agents that plan steps, use tools and finish multi-step tasks - explained simply.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
A chatbot answers. An agent acts: given a goal, it plans steps, browses or calls tools, checks results and continues. Start with tiny supervised tasks.
Steps
1Pick one repetitive workflow
Example: daily price collection, inbox triage, or lead-list building. Narrow beats ambitious.
2Define done clearly
Write the exact output format and the rules (never email customers, always cite sources).
3Run supervised first
Review every action for two weeks. Agents misunderstand instructions creatively.
4Add guardrails, then scale
Spending caps, allow-lists, human approval for outward actions. Then expand scope slowly.
Good to know: Agents with your passwords and payment access are a breach waiting to happen. Least privilege, always.
