Internet Speed Test: How to Measure Correctly
Mbps, ping, jitter explained simply, plus the right way to test in Nepal.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-09-15 · Verify current figures on official sources
A speed test is only meaningful if done right: one device, near the router, no downloads running. Otherwise you measure your Wi-Fi, not your line.
Steps
1Prepare the test
Stop downloads, streaming and cloud backup on all devices first.
2Test 3 times
Test morning, afternoon and evening. Note download, upload and ping each time.
3Understand the numbers
25 Mbps handles 4K streaming; gaming needs low ping (<60ms) more than big Mbps.
4Compare cable vs Wi-Fi
Big gap means Wi-Fi is the bottleneck. Small gap at all hours means the line or plan is.
Good to know: Speedtest servers in Nepal vs Singapore give different results. Compare against the same server each time.
FAQ
Why is upload much lower?
Home fiber plans are asymmetric by design. Only leased lines offer equal upload.
