Antivirus, VPN, proxy and MTU causes - fix in order without reinstalling Windows.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
The connection starts then gets killed. Security software and middleboxes cause most cases.
Steps
1Disable VPN/proxy first
VPN apps and system proxies reset connections constantly. Turn off and retest immediately.
2Pause antivirus web shield
Briefly disable HTTPS scanning to test. If fixed, update the antivirus, don't leave it off.
3Reset browser network
Clear cache, disable extensions via Incognito test, reset Chrome settings if needed.
4Check MTU/router
Rare but real on PPPoE lines - lowering MTU to 1492/1480 in router WAN settings fixes chronic resets.
Good to know: One site only? Their server or CDN edge is at fault - try mobile data to confirm, then wait.
FAQ
