eSIM in Nepal: What It Is and How to Activate (NTC/Ncell)
Keep your number without a plastic SIM: eligibility, QR activation and dual-SIM tips.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
An eSIM is your mobile plan stored digitally inside the phone - no plastic to lose, and room for a second SIM for travel or work numbers. Availability and process differ by operator, so confirm current steps officially.
Steps
1Check phone compatibility
Only eSIM-capable models work. Check settings for an 'Add eSIM' option or the maker's spec page.
2Confirm operator support
Ask NTC/Ncell (app, store or helpline) whether eSIM is currently offered for your plan type.
3Convert at the point of sale
Conversion usually needs ID verification and a QR or activation code scanned on the new phone.
4Test before travelling
Calls, SMS, OTPs and data must all work before you depend on it abroad - especially banking OTPs.
Good to know: Keep the old physical SIM until the eSIM fully works. Conversions can take time to propagate across systems.
