Save Fuel on Your Bike and Scooter: 8 Habits That Work
Most riders get 10-20% below their vehicle's potential mileage from aggressive acceleration, low tyre pressure and skipped servicing.
Measure first with the fuel cost tool, fix the habits below, then measure again after two full tanks.
- 1. Check tyre pressure monthly: Soft tyres drag. Follow the manual's PSI (usually on a sticker near the engine) - check cold, monthly.
- 2. Ride smooth, not fast-slow: Gradual acceleration and early, gentle braking beat racing to red lights. Steady 40-50 km/h sips fuel.
- 3. Service on schedule: Dirty air filters, old spark plugs and thick oil each steal mileage. Follow the service book, not breakdowns.
- 4. Cut idle and excess weight: Switch off at 60+ second stops. Remove that permanently-mounted heavy top box if unused.
- 5. Track every tank: Note odometer and litres each refill. Falling mileage warns of problems before breakdowns do.
