Email Breach Check: Has Your Password Leaked? (Action Guide)
Check breaches safely and contain them: unique passwords, 2FA and what to change first.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
Billions of credentials circulate from past breaches. If you reuse passwords, one old leak opens everything.
Steps
1Check on a reputable service
Use a well-known breach-check service directly (typed address, not via links). Note which breaches include you.
2Change reused passwords first
Start with email, banking/wallets, Facebook and Google - unique password each, via a manager.
3Enable 2FA everywhere important
Authenticator app preferred. Breached password plus 2FA still protects you.
4Watch for targeted phishing
Leaked data fuels convincing scam calls. Treat unexpected 'bank' calls as hostile.
Good to know: Never enter passwords on sites linked from breach-scare emails - check by typing the address yourself.
FAQ
Change all passwords?
Prioritise reused and important ones immediately, then rotate the rest over a week.
