Digital Wallet Safety: 10 Rules for eSewa, Khalti and Banks
PINs, OTPs, KYC fraud calls and fake support - the complete protection checklist.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04
Every wallet scam in Nepal runs on one trick: creating urgency so you share an OTP or PIN. These ten rules block nearly all of them.
Steps
1Never share OTP or PIN
No company, bank or government office ever asks for them. The request itself proves fraud.
2Hang up on KYC threats
'Account blocked today, verify now' calls are scams. Real notices live inside the official app.
3Lock your apps
App lock plus phone lock means a stolen unlocked moment still cannot drain wallets.
4Use official apps only
Install from official stores, check developer names, and never sideload 'new version' APKs from links.
5Verify before big transfers
Call the person on a known number for large amounts - SIM-swap and impersonation target big payments.
Good to know: If you shared an OTP, open the official app immediately, change the PIN/password, and call official support - minutes matter.
