QR Payment Safety: Pay Shops Without Getting Scammed

Confirm merchant names, spot replaced stickers, and fix failed-but-debited QR payments.

By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04

QR payments are fast - scan, confirm, done. The one step beginners skip is reading the merchant name on the confirm screen, which is exactly what sticker-swap scammers exploit.

Steps

  1. 1Scan from your own app

Use your wallet or banking app's scan feature - never a random QR-scanner app that can overlay fake pages.

  2. 2Read the merchant name

The confirm screen shows the registered shop name. If it says a person's name at a big store, stop and ask.

  3. 3Check stickers physically

Peeling edges or a sticker pasted over another sticker are classic tampering signs.

  4. 4Handle failed debits

If money left but the shop shows unpaid, show your success screen, note the transaction ID, and raise it in-app - do not pay twice immediately.

Good to know: Generate your own receiving QR only inside your official wallet/banking app. Our QR generator tool makes QRs for links and text - never share wallet PINs or OTPs through any QR flow.

FAQ

Can a QR steal my money by scanning?

Scanning alone cannot debit you - you must confirm and enter PIN. Never approve a collect request you did not expect.
