Steps
1Pick the right Google account
Settings > Chats > Chat backup: confirm the account shown is yours with Drive space.
2Include videos deliberately
Toggle videos only on Wi-Fi with space. Otherwise backups stall forever.
3Run manual backup now
Tap Back Up and wait on Wi-Fi until completion. Note the size and time.
4Test the restore path
On new phones, verify with the SAME number and Google account during setup - order matters.
Good to know: New phone, same number first, then restore prompt. Changing numbers breaks the chain.
