Facebook Password Reset: Recover Your Account Safely
Forgot your Facebook password or locked out? Use only the official recovery flow - never third-party 'hacker' tools.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-09-15
Facebook recovery works through your linked mobile number or email. Anyone promising to 'hack back' your account for money is a scammer. This guide uses only the official method.
Steps
1Open the official login page
Go to facebook.com in a browser (not links sent by strangers) and click 'Forgotten password?'.
2Enter your number or email
Type the mobile number or email linked to the account and click Search.
3Choose where to receive the code
Pick SMS or email, enter the 6-digit code, and set a new strong password.
4Check for unknown sessions
After login, go to Settings > Accounts Centre > Password and security > Where you're logged in, and remove devices you don't recognise.
5Turn on two-factor authentication
In the same security section, enable 2FA with an authenticator app or SMS so a stolen password alone is not enough.
Good to know: Facebook never asks for your password, OTP or citizenship photo over Messenger, WhatsApp or phone calls. Those are always scams.
FAQ
I lost my old SIM too. What now?
Use the 'No longer have access?' option on the recovery screen and follow identity verification, or recover the SIM from your telecom provider first.
