By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04 · Verify current figures on official sources
Unknown phones on your Wi-Fi eat speed and see shared files. Audit the device list monthly.
Steps
1Open connected devices
In the router admin page, find DHCP Client List / Connected Devices. Count entries vs your household devices.
2Identify each device
Match MAC/hostnames to your phones, TV and laptop. Anything unrecognised is suspect.
3Block or change password
Block the MAC, or simply change the Wi-Fi password - fastest eviction for all strangers at once.
4Harden afterwards
WPA2+, new admin password, WPS off. Check again in a week.
Good to know: A sudden evening slowdown with extra devices listed almost always means a shared password - change it.
FAQ
Is it hacking?
Usually just a shared password. Real intrusions are rarer than leaked passwords.
