How to Open a Broker, TMS and DEMAT Account in Nepal
The complete account-opening checklist: broker selection, documents, TMS login, collateral and timelines.
By DigitalNepal · Updated 2026-10-04 · Verify current figures on official sources
To trade on NEPSE you need a trading account with a licensed stockbroker (which gives you TMS online access), plus a DEMAT account to hold shares. Many brokers help open both together.
Choose a broker by office access, TMS stability, support responsiveness and clear charge explanations - not by tips or promises of returns.
Steps
1Shortlist licensed brokers
Use only NEPSE-licensed brokers. Check the current broker list on NEPSE's official site and prefer one with an office or support you can reach.
2Prepare KYC documents
Typically citizenship, passport-size photos, and bank account details. Requirements vary slightly, so confirm the broker's current checklist before visiting.
3Open DEMAT + MeroShare
Open a DEMAT account (often via the broker/DP), activate MeroShare login, and link your bank account with CRN for IPO and payment use.
4Get TMS credentials and test
Collect your TMS username/password, log in, change the password, and explore market depth and order screens before placing real orders.
5Understand buying power
To buy, you deposit collateral/payment with the broker as per their rules. To sell, the shares must be in your DEMAT. Ask about settlement timing and any holding requirements.
Good to know: Never share your TMS password or OTP with anyone - not even someone claiming to be broker staff. Real staff never ask for them.
FAQ
Can I open accounts fully online?
Processes keep changing. Some brokers support online steps with physical verification later - ask your chosen broker for the current process.
