Random Wi-Fi drops on one device are usually power-saving settings, outdated drivers, or a crowded 2.4 GHz channel - not your ISP plan. Fix the device first before complaining to the provider.

Steps

  1. 1Forget and rejoin the network

On the device, forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect with the correct password. This clears corrupted saved settings.

  2. 2Turn off Wi-Fi power saving (laptops)

In Device Manager > Network adapter > Properties > Power Management, uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device'.

  3. 3Disable auto-switch on phones

Turn off 'Auto-switch to mobile data' / 'Adaptive Wi-Fi' so the phone stops dropping weak-but-usable signals.

  4. 4Move closer and reduce interference

Keep the router in an open central spot, away from microwaves and thick concrete walls.

  5. 5Restart router properly

Unplug the router for 30 seconds, then plug back in. Restart the ONT too if you have fiber.

  6. 6Update network drivers

On Windows, update the Wi-Fi driver from Device Manager or the laptop maker's website.

Good to know: If ALL devices disconnect at the same time, the problem is the router or ISP line - note the time pattern and call support with details.

FAQ

Does a Wi-Fi extender help?

Only if the router signal is weak far away. It cannot fix drops that happen next to the router.
